FOR A BETTER SOCIETY
Towards A New Model Of Global Citizen
Scientific and technological innovations have become increasingly important in our information-based society. For this reason, S.T.E.M. subjects (Science Technology Engineering and Math) are considered fundamental for success, even more than in the past.
However, in a knowledge-based society, it is equally important to have a solid humanistic foundation in order to maintain a higher disciplinary standard and to achieve a wider and more inclusive social impact.
That’s why M.E.S.H. subjects (Media Literacy, Ethics, Sociology, History) are equally essential.
BUILDING THE WORLD WE DESERVE
The Balance Between S.T.E.M. And M.E.S.H.
S.T.E.M. knowledge can solve some of the main problems of the world. It could save us from the ecological disaster. Neverthless, it must dialogue with the M.E.S.H. discipline.
Without a humanities basis, it will be difficult to solve other types of big issues, such as inequality, gender parity, group conflict and many other urgent problems.
But we don’t have to choose between M.E.S.H. and S.T.E.M. We need both.
CRITICAL SKILLS FOR A NEW WORLD
STEM is necessary but not sufficient to offer value to the future. For this we must balance the STEM subjects with the MESH ones.
MESH subjects are critical to acquire the right skills to get ethical insights and IQ related to things like empathy, compassion, reciprocity, solidarity. all decisive for the functioning of a democratic society.
MEDIA LITERACY
Media literacy is essential to filter any type of propaganda from effective social and political programs
ETHICS
Ethical basis for rethinking current consumption and production patterns and assessing our long-term obligations
SOCIOLOGY
Sociological imagination to analyze the power dynamics and their impact on future generations
HISTORY
Historical memory to learn from the past and make all irresponsibilities accomplished unrepeatable
Focusing Only On Science And Technology Will Offer Little Value To The Future
M.E.S.H. has the potential to shape a better world. Through the knowledge of media literacy, ethics, sociology and history we can acquire the appropriate skills to achieve moral and ethical intuitions and truly share things like empathy, reciprocity, solidarity and mutual benefit. Everything for the functioning of a democratic society.
If we don’t balance our push for better S.T.E.M. training with an equal commitment to mastering M.E.S.H. subjects, the future could end up being one in which we have lots of incredibly tech savvy people but very few functional citizens.
In fact, for things like science to work properly, M.E.S.H. training will be needed. Contrary to the apparent beliefs, science does not work alone as an instrument of truth. Although scientists often work with the idea that their efforts are rooted in objectivity, nothing could be further from the truth.
The scientific method has been abused many times throughout history for oppressive purposes. Without a historical understanding and a sociological imagination of how science was armed against people, scientific literacy itself is no guarantee of the elevation and advancement of society.
SCIENCE, ENGINEERING, TECH, AND MATH WILL ALWAYS BE ESSENTIAL FOR SOLVING PRESENT AND FUTURE PROBLEMS.
BUT WITHOUT AN EQUAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN PEOPLE, GOVERNMENT, ECONOMICS AND THE MEDIA, ALL THE TECHNICAL KNOW-HOW IN THE WORLD WILL BE USELESS.

THE WISDOM WE NEED
Unlock Human Potential In The Storm Of Technology
No actions can be labeled as wise unless they are directed towards the common good. Wisdom always works towards the optimal solution for the group, not the individual agent.
This is the “should” element of wisdom, somethign that goes beyond the “could” element of intelligence.
By including M.E.S.H. in a path of deeper knowledge, the goal is to develop and nurture skills that will become increasingly important.
Skills such as critical thinking, civic competence, the ability to maximize a future positive impact and, finally, achieve the creation of more fully-formed and functional human beings.
